This mural on 22nd & Broadway was designed by BAMP’s Creative Director Rachel Wolfe and Executive Director Andre Jones. The youth empowerment mural depicts two back-to-back children, highlighting their solidarity in front of a quiet yet fiery Lake Merritt background. Nearly 50 volunteers participated on this 24ft x 80ft wall.
A raised fist was the first choice for the mural for it has been a long-standing symbol of solidarity. BAMP did not want to use this wall to bring about controversy but to create a narrative about the future of our leaders in Oakland so that together we can bring about change.
